The Pleasure (Obsession) of Food Photo Taking

TG-foodpics

I’ve gotten into the (good/bad) habit of taking photos of my food and not just at restaurants but at home as well. When I take them at a restaurant, I justify this in several ways:

1. I’m documenting what I’ve eaten because you never know when this might be important to know.

2. I’m posting dishes to Foursquare and/or Foodspotting because I like contributing to crowdsourced information about food and places to eat. I also use these location-based social mobile sites frequently when I’m traveling to find places to eat.

3. I’m generating an archive of social content, and you never know when that will come in handy.

Yes, I know what I do can be rude and disruptive. But I do ask permission of anyone else at the table with me, and they politely enable my addiction.

So why do I do this?

I confess. I harbor a unrequited desire to be a food blogger.

The barriers to this pipe dream include the fact that I have no idea how to write about food (my comments range from “Yum” to “Delish”), and although I dream of posting recipes and how-to-make-this photos, I don’t have the patience.

(In my dreams, I’m the Pioneer Woman.)

Am I the only one obsessed with taking photos of my food? How do you justify your food photo taking activities?
